I have joined the Institute for Mathematics and its Applications at the University of Minnesota as associate director for a two-year term. I am a professor of mathematics at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota, where I have been a faculty member since 1983. My recent research is mostly in the area of computer vision, where I have studied the dectection of symmetries, visual tracking, and the reconstruction of occlusions in space curves, with applications to the description of supercoiled DNA molecules.
