C. H. Robinson is a third-party logistics company: a match-maker between customers, who have freight that needs moving, and carriers, who have space to move the stuff. We will look at two of the problems in this space: building customer relationships, and combining small freight units to use transportation efficiently. We will also talk about using the vast customer/warehouse network to leverage existing relationships to better understand our customers and their needs. We will also examine the math of the consolidation problem, and why it isn’t as hopeless as it seems.
