Job Searching Steps 1 and 2: Strategies for Applying and Interviewing

Job searching is a multi-step process which begins with applying and hopefully leads to interviewing. Before you begin to apply and interview for opportunities it is important to mentally prepare for the process and establish what is most important to you and what you have to offer. This workshop will help you get in the right mental place for the search and outline tips and strategies to find opportunities that match your skills and interests, succeed in getting interviews, and land at step 3, receiving an offer.

Whitney Moore has been a Career Counselor in the CSE Career Center at the University of Minnesota since the fall of 2011. Her passions lie in infusing positivity into life changing times in people's lives, particularly while navigating the career development and job search processes. On and off campus she enjoys presenting to a variety of groups on career development, leadership, and higher-education topics. In addition to working in the CSE Career Center, Whitney is Past-President for the Minnesota College and University Career Services Association (MCUCSA). She received her B.A. in Communication Studies from Gustavus Adolphus College and M.S. in Counseling and Student Personnel from Minnesota State University, Mankato. Away from campus, Whitney enjoys all things Minnesota, including the North Shore of Lake Superior, hiking at state parks, anything Swedish, and spending time running, biking, and fishing outdoors with her husband, Ryan, and rescue dog, Charli. As an utter positivist, you’ll find Whitney striving to be optimistic, uplifting, and hopeful in all that she does!
