Multiscale Modeling in Support of Product Design.

I will describe a probabilistic framework that permits product design while accounting for functional dependencies across a hierarchy of scales. These dependencies include parametric uncertainty and modeling uncertainty. The flow of functionality is captured through physics-based multiscale models, while the statistical functionality is captured through a mixture of polynomial chaos expansions and Bayesian update. The formalism is demonstrated on an application supported by light vehicle initiative program of DOE.
