Controlling mass transit systems, identifying proteins, and stocking shelves, what is the common thread? Mathematics is the foundation for these diverse application domains. In this talk, we will examine the different types of mathematics that are needed to tackle these problems. In addition, we will discuss ways to weave together seemingly unrelated work experience to land a job in a new research area.
