EpiSims, part of the public health sector module of LANL's Urban Infrastructure Suite, is an agent-based simulation system that models the spread of disease and the effects of mitigation efforts at the level of individuals in a large urban area. This talk will briefly describe the design and implementation of EpiSims and give examples of its use. The UIS has motivated a research effort in dynamics, structure, and function of social networks. I will briefly indicate how these questions arise in EpiSims and some promising research directions.
