The tutorial will focus on some of the major themes in the evaluation of point process models for earthquakes. Following a brief survey of previous relevant results, we will closely review Yosihiko Ogata's pioneering 1988 work on point process residual analysis. More recent extensions of this work and other graphical and numerical model evaluations techniques will subsequently be examined, including likelihood statistics, thinning techniques, and uniformity tests.
