This presentation will provide an overview of of the multipath problem in GPS and DGPS applications. Multipath is the phenomenon whereby multiple signals from a single transmitter arrive at a receiver via reflection and diffraction. All signals other than the direct signal are unwanted and cause distortion of the direct signal leading to pseudorange and carrier-phase measurement errors. This presentation will cover the description of multipath, its effects in traditional and modern receivers, and methods for mitigation.
