In his paper Geometry for the Selfish Herd, Bill Hamilton showed how security issues would lead selfish animals in a one-dimenional space to group together. We look at a two-dimensional habitat and include food along with security as an external parameter. We present a mathematical model, a simulation of the model, and comparison with behavioral data of silverside in a shallow pool.
