Effects of Mitral Apparatus Geometry on Mitral Flow and Leaflet Motion: A Computer Study

The two-dimensional computational heart model using the immersed boundary method is modified to explore the mechanisms of mitral valve prolapse, mitral valve regurgitation, and changes in diastolic transmitral flow patterns. This is just one example of the utility of computer modeling in exploring the pathophysiology of valve function.
