Title: Introduction to tropical geometry

Abstract: The main idea of tropical geometry is to replace "usual"

algebraic varieties by certain limits which are piece-wise linear

objects. These piece-wise linear objects are easier to deal with and

there are combinatorial approaches. But as we want results in algebraic

geometry, we have to make sure which properties of an algebraic variety

carry over to the limit. There is a lot of research in progress with

respect to this question.

In the talk, I will give basic definitions and explain some examples of

properties which carry over to the tropical world, and others which

don't seem to carry over.
