Abstract for the Brown Bag Seminar on January 28th, Vaidyanathan Ramaswami

Matrix Analytic Methods for Stochastic Models

These are methods that enable the algorithmic analysis of large classes of stochastic models. Typical tools in this approach are nonlinear matrix equations and iterative techniques for them, but the approach gains much by constructing algorithms based on proababilistic interpretations and approaches. I will give an overview of the area and towards the end point to exciting research opportunities related to extending these to the operator frameowrk that is much needed in the modern day of context of high speed networking etc.
