RESEARCH
I am interested in the areas of mathematical biology and biomathematics education. My Ph.D. research focused on the application of differential equations to cellular signaling pathways. In particular, I worked on the development and mathematical analysis of an ordinary differential equations model of the uridine 5'-diphosphate signaling pathway in the RAW 264.7 macrophage. From May 2004 to July 2007 I conducted my research in the H. Alex Brown lab in the Vanderbilt Pharmacology Department. While in the lab, I also helped to develop new methodology pertinent to my model as well as performed the necessary experiments to obtain missing parameters for the model.
Since my arrival at the IMA, I have redirected my focus to the investigation and modeling of cell motility, in collaboration with my mentor, Hans Othmer. Click here for a brief yet more detailed explanation of my current research in cell motility. I have also recently started collaborations with researchers in the math education department at the University of Minnesota. One of my long-term goals in math education is to enhance current biomath curricula (particularly at the undergraduate level) and, in doing so, to spark more student interest in the beauty, relevance, and importance of mathematics in our everyday lives.
TEACHING
I am currently teaching Linear Algegra and Differential Equations for IT students for the University of Minnesota Mathematics Department.
Courses I have taught at Vanderbilt include the following:
OTHER INTERESTS
I am currently training for my first marathon with Team in Training. I'll be running the Twin Cities marathon on October 5. Click here to go to my Team in Training website.
Additional interests include playing guitar and singing, snowboarding, surfing, volleyball, softball, tennis, cycling, and most anything outdoors.
