Information
Emergency and Security Information
Emergency: Dial "911" in an emergency, both on the U of MN
campus phone system and the regular public phone system. This
number should be used in any emergency for the quickest
response from police, fire department, or an ambulance. For
assistance with urgent, but non-emergency, problems,
appropriate contact information can be obtained from campus
Information by dialing "0" in the U of MN campus phone system.
Medical Emergencies: Check your medical insurance before an
emergency to determine which hospital you should go to. An
option on the University of Minnesota campus is the emergency
room at the University Hospital. It is located at the corner of
Harvard St. S.E. and East River Road. (They do have adjacent
parking.) If the hospital does not take your insurance they
will bill you for their services.
Emergency Exit at Lind Hall: There are two exits from the IMA
offices on the fourth floor of Lind Hall. In the case of an
emergency, please use either of the two stairways located on
the north and south ends of the IMA office area. DO NOT use the
elevator in the event of a fire.
IMA Access:
The IMA operates from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. To access the
IMA facilities on the 4th floor before 8:00am or after 4:30pm
you must
have an access card. This card can be obtained from staff in
room 409
during business hours.
If you are participating in an IMA program, you may receive an
office
key, security access card, or building key signed-out in your
name.
Please return them to the IMA main office before you leave.
Lind Hall building hours are 7:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. Monday
through Thursday, and 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lind
Hall is closed Saturday and Sunday. If you will need access to
the building during a time it is not open, please ask the staff
about obtaining an outside building key.
Due to the open environment of the IMA and the problems with
theft on campus, we ask that you please honor our access
policy. Please do not let others into the IMA after hours or
loan your card to anyone. Do not prop the stairwell doors open.
Security Reminder: When you are not in your office, please keep
your office door locked for safe keeping of your personal items
and IMA equipment. Unfortunately, we have not been immune to
security problems and will appreciate your assistance. If you
see someone in IMA office space, lounge, etc, who you believe
is not associated with the IMA please inform the staff in the
main office immediately so we can report it.
Escort Service: (612-624-9255 or
612-624-WALK or 4-WALK) available 24
hours a day/7 days a week. The Security Monitor Program, a
branch of
the UMPD, offers free walking and biking security escorts to
and from
campus locations and nearby adjacent neighborhoods for all
students,
staff, faculty and visitors. To request an escort from a
trained
student security monitor, places call the above number from any
campus
phone, shortly before your desired departure time. For
additional
information and boundary maps, please see
http://www1.umn.edu/police/escort.html.
Code Blue Emergency Telephone:
Campus safety is enhanced by the Code
Blue Emergency Telephones located throughout campus. These
provide an
immediate connection with the 911 operator at the University
Police
station. The blue light helps you spot these phones. Once the
unit is
activated a bright flashing light is emitted to help attract
attention
to the situation. A police officer or security guard will
respond
immediately and assist you in your emergency. Information on
code Blue
Phone locations is available at
http://www1.umn.edu/dcs/codebluephones.html.
