Title: Hilbert functions of standard graded algebras

Abstract: Hilbert functions have been introduced more than 100 years ago and they
have been intensely studied ever since. Indeed, they continue to attract a
lot of interest because numerous problems in various areas of mathematics
can be reinterpreted as questions about Hilbert functions. In this talk we
will discuss some of the fundamental results about Hilbert functions as
well as several open problems.
