Anne Gelb: Region Extraction Using Edge Detection and B-Splines
This talk describes a method for region segmentation that combines a
recently developed edge detection method, a novel point sequencing
algorithm, and B-splines. The constructed edge map is rich with useful
information that can be teased out for effective segmentation. By careful
point sequencing that considers characteristic features of the underlying
image, the resulting B-spline provides an accurate depiction of the
regions of interest. The method is robust and computationally efficient,
and would also be useful as an initialization step to active contour
methods.
