Theory

A numerical scheme for moment equations of kinetic theory, due
to LeTallec & Perlat, is considered for the calculation
of stationary heat transfer in the Grad moment system with up
to 430 moments.
The numerical results for Knudsen numbers Kn=0.01 ... Kn=1 exhibit
temperature jumps and boundary layers at the wall. With increasing
numbers of moments, the results of the various sets of equations
converge.
The boundary conditions do not guarantee conservation of energy
at the walls, but the increase of the number of moments reduces
the error to less than 0.3%.
