Taking
advantage of the modularity of MAQSIP as a host model, the Bott
advection solver is compared to a newer QSTSE solver. The SCAQS
August 1987 episode simulation shows quite different results
when different solvers are used. In general, the QSTSE solver
gives improved model performance against observations. This
result is particularly significant at upwind locations, such
as Hawthorne, where the Bott solver results in overprediction
due to upstream numerical diffusion.
