Weak Dispersion Limits of Integrable Systems and their Solutions

We will discuss some aspects of weak dispersion limits of integrable nonlinear wave equations. In particular, we give a detailed discussion on dispersive regularization of the (dispersionless) nonlinear Schroedinger equation by using the Whitham averaged equations for an application to optical communications [see SIAM J.
