Numerical Modeling and Design Optimization of Periodic Dielectric Structures

This talk presents an overview of some recent progress in the development of numerical methods for modeling electromagnetic wave propagation in periodic dielectric structures, and for automatic design optimization of such structures. Particular examples of structures of interest include gratings and photonic bandgap structures. Methods, numerical results, and directions for further research will be discussed.
