In
this talk I shall discuss aspects of the dynamics of harmonic
oscillators interacting with fields. In particular I shall consider
effective damping and, in the case of gyroscopically stabilized
oscillators, induced instability. I shall also consider classical
and quantum squeezing of oscillators by laser pulses and the effect
on squeezing of such a system in contact with a heat bath. This
is joint work with P. Hagerty,
M. Weinstein, and with
A. Rojo.
