The IMA at 20: Mathematics and its Impact

In celebration of its 20th year of operation the IMA has a host of activities scheduled comping up in the period June 5 through June 9.

The festivities will kick off with an open house and reception at the IMA on the afternoon of Thursday, June 5. That evening Charles Peskin will deliver a lecture geared to the general public with the title "Secrets of the Heart Revealed--by Mathematics and Computer Simulation".

The heart of the event is the conference "The IMA at 20: Mathematics and its Impact" which will take place on Friday and Saturday, June 6-7. The stellar lineup of speakers is:

  • Nancy Kopell, Boston University
  • Graeme Milton, University of Utah
  • Andrew Odlyzko, University of Minnesota
  • George C. Papanicolaou, Stanford University
  • Wim Sweldens, Lucent Technologies

  • Lai Sang Young, Courant Institute
  • Panagiotis Souganidis, University of Texas at Austin

The main social event of the anniversary will coincide with the conference banquet on Friday evening. There will also be activities geared to special groups, such as an IMA postdoc reunion on Saturday, meetings of the IMA Participating Institutions Advisory Board on Sunday and the IMA Industrial Advisory Board meeting on Monday.
