A number of applications of nonsmooth optimization in industry will be discussed. Particular focus will be given to the use of nonsmooth optimization when addressing the solution of combinatorial optimization problems using the method of Lagrangian relaxation. The application addressed in this area will be the Data Association Problem that arises in multitarget tracking. In addition, applications of semidefinite programming, including model tuning problems arising in the analysis of aircraft structures, will be discussed.
