Reductions in force, market shifts, stock options, reorganizations are all aspects of a new economy. These external forces of change must be addressed. In this talk I will discuss how one prepares for new opportunities. Doing your job is often not sufficient. Redefining your job and redefining yourself is often an approach that makes the successful person appear to be lucky. Working as a mathematician in industry can be very rewarding and certainly interesting. Your attitude is important in navigating the calm as well as troublesome waters.
