Logistics were praised uniformely, some with ethusiasm. Generally the content was also priased with one notable dissent which felt that the tutorial was too heavily weighted to imaging as opposed to speech. Selected comments Content: This course was interesting, but overall I was disappointed- although the course was titled 'speech and image' it was in fact almost entirely related to image processing, and the lecturers generally had very little, if any, knowledge about speech. Although most of the audience were probably from an image processing background, from a personal perspective I had hoped to improve my knowledge of mathematical techniques used in speech. I also think that some inclusion of this would have helped those mathematicians not from a speech background but who attended the workshop the following week. I think from my perspective as a speech researcher with some Also, as there are interesting parallels between speech and image, more attempt to bring the two technologies together and see how techniques favoured in one can and are used in the other, would have been informative and fitted with the title of the workshop. This short course was extremely interesting, and I felt I learned a great deal. All the lectures were valuable, and the lectures by G. Sapiro were particularly clear and interesting; I believe I got a good overview of new research directions in these areas. I made new contacts; I had many interesting conversations with a variety of short course participants. I am very glad to have attended the short course and I am certain it will be of direct value in my research. Logistics: Everything far exceeded my expectations. The hotel and office space were excellent. The IMA staff was first rate. They were courteous, professional and made me feel very welcome. Everything at the IMA was very well organized. The office accomodations were great, and the IMA staff was very helpfull. It was a very productive and enjoyable visit.
