Mail

You may send and receive electronic mail (``e-mail'') messages to users on the IMA network or the Internet by using any one of several e-mail client programs. pine is probably the easiest to use, although some prefer elm. The older, primitive Berkeley mail program is installed as mail under Linux and as Mail on the SGIs. Netscape/Mozilla Mail (see section [*]) can also be used as a mail reader, and other mail readers (such as xmh or kmail) may be available on some machines. If you need to set the mail server for use with POP, IMAP, or Netscape, it is mail.ima.umn.edu. Also, use SSL if you can.

When sending mail to users outside the IMA, you will need to know their entire e-mail address, not just their login name. Your full e-mail address at the IMA, where username is your login name, is

username@ima.umn.edu

There is an important general mail alias, ima@ima.umn.edu, that goes to everyone currently in residence, for short messages (300 words or less) which are in some broad sense IMA business.
