We currently have both graphical (netscape or mozilla) and text-based (lynx) web browsers available. By typing netscape you get our current default version.
The Linux workstations have the news readers trn and tin installed, and Netscape can also be used to read Usenet news. You will need to make sure that your NNTPSERVER variable is set to a valid news server; the news server for the University is at news.tc.umn.edu.
LUMINA (Libraries of the University of Minnesota Integrated Network Access) is the computerized card catalog of the Twin Cities Campus. LUMINA can be accessed at http://www.lib.umn.edu/, the main web page for the University libraries. You can also access LUMINA by typing xlumina at the prompt on any of our UNIX workstations.
Of particular interest may be the Mathematics Library on the third floor of Vincent Hall, Wilson Library on the West Bank (the main campus library), and the Science and Engineering Library currently operating in the Walter Library/Digital Media Center; see http://math.lib.umn.edu/ and http://sciweb.lib.umn.edu/.
MathSciNet is the American Mathematical Society's Web version of Mathematical Reviews and Current Mathematical Publications, the main indexes to mathematics literature published from 1940 to the present. The database includes all citations and reviews. Besides offering powerful search options, MathSciNet links directly to articles in many electronic journals from search results.
Direct access is automatically authorized for U Minn-TC Campus computers or SLIP connections. Authorized U Minn-TC users while off campus may use this link: www.lib.umn.edu/web-bin/math.cgi; the requested X.500 username and password refers to the username@tc.umn.edu account.
