Windows Printing

Our Windows Workstations have icons for most of our printers. For workshop visitors, there are two different way to print a documentation. First one is that user physically connect one of our three public printers ( color, central and north ) thru a parallel printer cable. The other is that each user has to add one of our public printers ( color, central, north, open, 3rd, and 2nd ) to the user's own laptop as local printer. Here are the steps for Windows XP.

(1).
Click Start.
(2).
Double Click Printer and Faxes.
(3).
Double Click Add Printer.
(4).
Click Next.
(5).
Check for Local printer .. and UnCheck Automatically detect .. then Click Next.
(6).
Check Create a new port and Select Standard TCP/IP Port then Click Next.
(7).
Click Next for TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard.
(8).
Enter a printer name for example central.ima.umn.edu then Click Next.
(9).
Click Next as Standard Generic Network Card.
(10).
Click Next to complete TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard.
(11).
Select correct printer description.
(12).
Follow the rest of instructions.

For color, 3rd, and 2nd, you might need to download a printer driver from internet first.
