Our Windows Workstations have icons for most of our printers. For workshop visitors,
there are two different way to print a documentation. First one is that user physically
connect one of our three public printers ( color, central and north )
thru a parallel printer cable. The other is that each user has to add one of our public
printers ( color, central, north, open, 3rd, and 2nd )
to the user's own laptop as local printer. Here are the steps for Windows XP.
- (1).
- Click Start.
- (2).
- Double Click Printer and Faxes.
- (3).
- Double Click Add Printer.
- (4).
- Click Next.
- (5).
- Check for Local printer .. and UnCheck Automatically detect .. then Click Next.
- (6).
- Check Create a new port and Select Standard TCP/IP Port then Click Next.
- (7).
- Click Next for TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard.
- (8).
- Enter a printer name for example central.ima.umn.edu then Click Next.
- (9).
- Click Next as Standard Generic Network Card.
- (10).
- Click Next to complete TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard.
- (11).
- Select correct printer description.
- (12).
- Follow the rest of instructions.
For color, 3rd, and 2nd, you might need to download a printer driver from
internet first.
