In
recent years, the concept of "m-term approximation" has been
promoted by R. DeVore et al., to formalize and investigate
a number of nonlinear approximation problems. The talk aims
at explaining some basic results on m-term approximation in
connection with typical application areas (adaptivity for
the solution of partial differential and integral equations,
coding theory, etc.).
