An overview will be given concerning different singularity mechanisms that have been found for the Stefan problem in classical and undercooled situations using either rigourous techniques or formal asymptoic expansions. In particualr different mechanisms of shrinking of the free boundaries to points, as well as cusp formation and corner formation mechanisms will be discussed.
