This talk is a survery of some mechanisms by which a network of neurons can synchronize, and ways in which the synchronization process can be modulated. The examples are taken from a variety of neural preparations. The talk includes a discussion of the role of in the synchronization process of the wave form of the voltage, the time scales in the synaptic processes, and timing of spikes within a burst. It will serve as an introduction to more detailed talks to be given in the later sessions.
