The introduction of the behavioral view of systems by Jan Willems has given us a richer view of linear systems and has been instrumental in making connections between code theory, systems theory and the theory of languages. The work of Willems and his co-workers could be thought of as working out the consequences of making this new, fundamental definition of a system. The purpose of my talk is to suggest a definition of a probabilistic system in the spirit of Willems' definition. I will discuss stochastic representation theory as it currently exists. The representation theory arising out of the proposed definition of a probabilistic system needs to be worked out.
