I will develop and analyze mathematical models for two different
topics. For the first topic I will use an epidemic control model
to assess the problems of how to use moderately effective vaccines
to control the HIV epidemic in the gay community in San Francisco.
Specifically, I will analyze the impact on vaccine effectiveness
of the interaction of mechanism of failure and changes in risk
behavior. For, the second topic I will use mathematical models
to address the problem of how to design effective HIV epidemic
control strategies when more than one subtype of HIV is present.
