Finite Element Circus

  Description

The Finite Element Circus is a conference series with a rich history dating back to the 1970's and focuses on developments in the finite element method and its applications. The conference will consist of randomly ordered talks volunteered by conference participants. We invite people who are interested in the finite element method to sign up to give a talk or just attend.

The Friday session will start at 1:30 p.m., and the Saturday session will start at 8:30 a.m - ending in the late afternoon. All talks will be held in Room 3/180 Keller Hall on the campus of the University of Minnesota.

Immediately preceeding this event will be an IMA workshop on "Structure Preserving Discretizations of Partial Differential Equations," to be held October 22-24, 2014. This workshop will also be an occasion to celebrate the 60th birthday of Douglas N. Arnold, whose work has made profound contributions to the field of numerical analysis of partial differential equations. Applications to participate in the IMA workshop will be taken until October 1, 2014.

Finite Element Circus participants will make their own lodging arrangements. Participants may receive discounted rates (based on availability) by mentioning the IMA Circus at the Days Inn University Avenue (612-623-3999), The Depot Renaissance Hotel (612-375-1700), Courtyard Minneapolis-Downtown (612-333-4646) and The Commons Hotel (612-379-8888).  We recommend making the reservation prior to September 24, 2014, as several hotels will not offer the discounted rate past that date.

Invited participants of Structure Preserving Discretizations of Partial Differential Equations may request an unfunded extension to their IMA provided hotel reservation by e-mailing housing@ima.umn.edu.
